Reds finished just a point behind Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League last season after record haul

Liverpool warned they must spend big again in the transfer market to catch Man City

Liverpool have been warned that they will have to spend big in the transfer market again this summer he they want to keep up with Manchester City.

The Reds splashed out almost a quarter of a billion pounds on transfer outlays over the calendar year of 2018 (although they also recouped over £150million) in an attempt to catch Pep Guardiola's big-spending side.
The strategy almost paid off with Liverpool cutting the gap on City from 25 points in 2017/18 to a single point in 2018/19 with Jurgen Klopp's men accumulating a club record 97 points and losing just one Premier League game.
Such a feat would have seen them crowned champions over every single top flight season in English football other than the last two, both won by City but Anfield legend Ray Clemence believes his old side, who enjoyed the rather significant 'consolation' of winning the Champions League, should not rest on their laurels.

Not that it will be much comfort, but United remain a step ahead of Liverpool off the field. For the 2017-18 season, the Red Devil...
