The career crossroads Nathaniel Clyne stands at as Liverpool defender gets set for Reds return

Those prone to cliches might describe it as a career of two halves for Nathaniel Clyne at Liverpool. For four seasons, the defender has been a contracted Reds player, spending two of those turning in a string of dependable and consistent displays down the right-hand side at Anfield. The other couple have been spent desperately trying to shake off injury and kicking his heels on the sidelines, with a loan spell away thrown in for good measure. Signed in the summer of 2015 from Southampton, Clyne was a virtual ever-present for the first couple of years on Merseyside, racking up 93 appearances in the process. In his first campaign with the Reds, he notched an impressive 52 across all competitions, ensuring he was very much first choice under Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.

How Liverpool might have saved millions on Alisson transfer

Reds were first alerted to Brazilian goalkeeper by one of his Anfield predecessors An outstanding debut season from Alisson at Liverpool has more than vindicated his world-record fee but they might have landed him for a fraction of that price if one of his Reds predecessors had managed to have his way. Alisson cost £66.8million from Roma on July 19 last year made him the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time but was eclipsed within a month by Kepa Arrizabalaga joining Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6million. Liverpool's outlay proved to be money well spent though with Alisson conceding just 22 goals in the Premier League – the lowest total in the Premier League – and the 26-year-old made several crucial saves in the 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final, in contrast to the double blunder by Loris Karius against Real Madrid 12 months earlier. However, Alisson's fellow Brazilian Doni, who main...

Barcelona's potential four-piece made up of Messi, Suárez, Neymar and Griezmann scored 120 goals last season; 38 more than Madrid's new Hazard-Jovic-Benzema-Vinicius quartet

Barcelona's potential four-piece made up of Messi, Suárez, Neymar and Griezmann scored 120 goals last season; 38 more than Madrid's new Hazard-Jovic-Benzema-Vinicius quartet. Regardless of how Ernesto Valverde would line them up and how well they would understand each other both on the pitch and in the dressing room, the Messi-Suárez-Neymar-Griezmann quartet  would undoubtedly be a goal-making machine. In total, Messi (51 goals), Suárez (25), Neymar (23) and Griezmann (21) scored 120 goals with their respective clubs last season. That’s 38 more than the than Real Madrid’s new Benzema-Jovic-Hazard-Vinicius quartet. Of course, it’s difficult to know how those numbers will be affected now that they will be playing together, but it is still a significant difference.  Take Griezmann out of the picture and the numbers are still impressive. The Neymar-Messi-Suárez trident scored 364 goals (in addition to providing 211 assists) in their three seasons together at Camp N...

Reds finished just a point behind Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League last season after record haul

Liverpool warned they must spend big again in the transfer market to catch Man City  Liverpool have been warned that they will have to spend big in the transfer market again this summer he they want to keep up with Manchester City. The Reds splashed out almost a quarter of a billion pounds on transfer outlays over the calendar year of 2018 (although they also recouped over £150million) in an attempt to catch Pep Guardiola's big-spending side. The strategy almost paid off with Liverpool cutting the gap on City from 25 points in 2017/18 to a single point in 2018/19 with Jurgen Klopp's men accumulating a club record 97 points and losing just one Premier League game. Such a feat would have seen them crowned champions over every single top flight season in English football other than the last two, both won by City but Anfield legend Ray Clemence believes his old side, who enjoyed the rather significant 'consolation' of winning the C...

Madagascar game won’t be a stroll in the park for Super Eagles says Leon Balogun

Nigerian defender Leon Balogun says the Super Eagles will approach their final Group B game at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Egypt with all seriousness. The three time African Champions are through to the next round after securing six points from two games played so far. Madagascar on their part, needed a point to seal qualification after picking four points from same number of matches. However, a victory or draw for Nigeria against a second placed Madagascar means the Super Eagles will finished as the Group winners. ”We have another game against Madagascar, I would say it’s a wrong approach to take the game easy because there’s another game coming after and we would be well advised to keep our form up. ”Madagascar won’t take it easy, they also want to qualify, they’ve still got chances after their draw against Guinea in their first game and a win over Burundi, so it won’t be an easy one but definitely, we can be more relaxed than them”. Balogun who’s making h...
